Dear Parents & Students,

The Girton Basketball Club will be hosting adjusted final season trainings at the below times to accommodate the stipulations that have been put in place in response do the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, this does mean, that parents are unable to attend these events, which do include presentations, which will occur immediately after each training session.

Please note these sessions will be shorter, encompassing games and activities that promote enjoyment in basketball to end our season off on a high note. Normal training procedures will occur including roll marking, the walking of students over from Junior School and collecting your children at the completion of training.

                1st session                           3.30pm – 4.15pm        (Gems, Rubies, Opals, Sapphires)

We would like to thank you all for your unwavering commitment to the Girton Basketball Club and hope that you have enjoyed this season of summer basketball.

Season Suspended

Good Afternoon Parents & Students,

In response to the latest release from the Bendigo Basketball Association and Basketball Victoria owing to COVID-19, all domestic basketball in Bendigo has unfortunately been suspended until further notice.

Understandably, for many of the teams currently still in finals and those Under 10 teams still playing games, this will come as disappointing news. At this stage, we are unaware if the competition will resume games before the end of term to allow finals to take place, or if they will make the decision to cancel the season entirely so as not to disrupt the upcoming winter season. We will continue to update you with these decisions when we are informed.

Owing to this uncertainty, Girton Basketball Training for teams in finals will be at the discretion of coaches for this week. You will all be notified by managers/coaches if your training is going ahead, so please continue to check your emails regularly.

Finally, the basketball break-ups for boys and girls will be going ahead on Thursday (boys) and Friday (girls) from 3:30-4:45pm, unless further precautionary action is taken by the school in the lead up to the event. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate another fantastic season. Note: Important hygiene practices will be enforced prior to this event. As per public advice, if you or your child are experiencing any flu like symptoms please stay home and do not attend this event.

News on our season

Unfortunately our season has been suspended until further notice.

I will provide more information as it is made available by the stadium.

At this stage I am still intending to stick to our training schedule unless further information prevents this.

With so much news today impacting our students lives please consider discussing the word "suspended" with your child and the impact this announcement may have.

We will wait and see where this takes us but I am 100% in favour of our students well being in this decision.

I have also attached some advice from the YALE Centre for Emotional Intelligence, that I work closely with in my role.

There may be some advice relevant to your family.

No Training Friday 31st Jan

Dear Parents, Guardians & Staff,

Owing to increasing temperatures forecasted for the remainder of the week (+40 degrees), all boys and girls basketball training will be cancelled on Thursday (Jan 30) and Friday (Jan 31) afternoon. The health of all students and staff are at the forefront of this decision and it is imperative that we take these precautions in such extreme weather. We apologise for any inconveniences that this cancellation may cause and hope that you understand these safety measures.

For future days of hot weather that do not fall within the ‘extreme weather’ category, the Girton Basketball Club will apply modifications to training that will allow students to participate at reduced intensity with increased breaks. We endeavour to provide all students with equal opportunities to participate in the game of basketball and develop their skills in a fun and safe environment.

We hope you are looking forward to the remainder of the Summer Season and we would like to wish all teams the best of luck!

Kind Regards,

Mr Norris & Mrs Tunzi
